Background

 A team of Acehnese youth found a youth non-government organization called The Leader on December 27, 2013.  At first, It only consist of 10 youth from whole different background, different talents, and different interests. Founding the leader, the 10 youth do not have anything to offer except a strong will to do a good deed for Aceh. Right now, 10 more youth has been recruited in the team to added more colors and expertise within the organization. The total member of The Leader now are officially 20 people.

Specifically, The Leader wants to create the positive change through Youth since the community level to global level. Our concerns and focuses are mainly in youth empowerment, peace and conflict resolution, education, youth participation and development, health, environmental, disaster preparedness, and entrepreneurship. 

This organization is based in Aceh, a western part of Indonesia that have experienced long term armed conflict and stroked by mega tsunami on 2004. Now, after the peace agreement was signed, the youth generally have experienced a significant terror, isolation, and hardly had access to the outside world. The leader ambition is to empower Acehnese youth to actualize their true potentials and live up their dream right after the catastrophes were over. We don’t want to be remembered as victims, we wanted to be known as survivors and resources. We encourage Acehnese youth to speak up in forums, join the international conference, spread the volunteerism spirit, aware with social issues and problems, start new ventures,  and make a difference. In 2013, The Leader has been awarded by President of Republik Indonesia with MDGs Award in Education category for our effort and will to empower youth in Aceh. Now, The Leader has been working with more than 700 youth and have been touring to 5 districts in Aceh to reach out for them.​ 

Latar Belakang

The Leader adalah sebuah perkumpulan pemuda yang ada di Banda Aceh dan terbentuk tanggal 27 Desember 2012. The Leader beranggotakan empat puluh empat pemuda dari berbagai latar belakang minat dan profesi yang berbeda mulai dari dokter, pengusaha, aktivis pariwisata, penyiar, hingga mahasiswa dan punya keinginan besar untuk ‘berbuat sesuatu’ sejak dari level komunitas hingga level global.

​The Leader menyadari ada banyak sekali masalah di dunia, khususnya di Aceh. mulai dari kemiskinan, kerusakan ekosistem, korupsi, kualitas pendidikan yang rendah, pelanggaran HAM, hingga praktik politik praktis yang tidak beretika. Namun kami percaya, bahwa sebenarnya yang dibutuhkan oleh Aceh untuk menyelesaikan masalah tersebut bukanlah uang yang banyak, fasilitas tercanggih, atau pun produk peraturan pemerintah paling mutakhir, melainkan pemuda-pemuda nya yang memiliki kapasitas dan ketulusan hati untuk mengabdi kepada daerahnya. The Leader menaruh harapan besar terhadap pemuda Aceh dan fokus terhadap pengembangan kapasitas mereka kearah yang lebih positif. Ditangan pemuda lah masa depan terjadi.

Menjadikan pemuda sebagai sosok inspirasi untuk terus berkarya sesuai dengan mimpi masing-masing dan membawa perubahan positif bagi lingkungannya.

1. Menjadi wadah penampung minat, bakat, dan kreativitas pemuda.
2. Menfasilitasi aksi dan ide pemuda dalam membangun perubahan untuk lingkungannya.
3. Memberikan informasi dan membina pemuda agar dapat aktif terlibat baik dalam kegiatan lokal, nasional maupun internasional
